If you are using your travel bag flying on a vacation or for work it should have one of those nice plastic ID cards attached to the handle on the top. The ID card can be found at many places and sites that sell travel bags. That ID card should have your name and address written on it whether you are carrying your bag on or delivering it to the airline before your flight.
When you get to your airline to check-in go to the check in table first and look for a cardboard box. It will have a bunch of cardboard blank ID cards you can take. On that cardboard ID card fill in your name and the address you are staying in after your flight arrives — a hotel, friends or relatives house, or communion building, etc.
You want to have that plastic ID card and the cardboard ID card on your carry travel bag too just in case someone grabs the wrong bag.
Why do this especially with your check-in bag? Because sometimes your check-in bag doesn’t arrive where and when you do. This has happened off and on for many travelers who have two flights to where they are going. After your first flight they might put your check-in bag on the wrong plane and when you arrive after your second flight your travel bag isn’t there. You go to their office right by the pick up place and tell them about your bag. They then look it up with your airplane card that has a bag number on it and you also have your plastic ID card and cardboard ID card on the bag. When they locate your bag, they then ask you for where to take it, and they tell you it will arrive on another plane and will be driven to where you are staying at a specific time and day.
This happened to me once, but luckily my bag was brought to where I was staying that evening after I arrived in the afternoon.
Another idea about your check-in bag is making it easy for you to find when you arrive and all the bags are coming out on the site. This will help you when waiting with others to get their bags after the flight. If you have a plain all black or all brown travel bag think of getting some little colorful stickers or colorful tape to stick on the front and back of your bag. Many people have bags that all look the same and they grab a bag and then see it isn’t theirs and put it back on the carrier. Your bag with color on it makes you spot it right away!
